If you want to learn more about where your ancestors lived it is essential to obtain a map of the area, and ideally the map should be from around the same time period. Below I have listed the maps available from Alan Godfrey Maps and the David & Charles Victorian Survey Maps that cover the East Yorkshire area.

The Alan Godfrey maps include historical introductions, and sometimes also have additional information such as a list of residents of a particular village or town. The David & Charles Victorian Survey Maps of England and Wales series offers reprints of the first edition of the one-inch Ordnance Survey maps of England and Wales, dating from 1805 to 1900.
